Our story

Meet the founders

Capstone Masonry was founded by college friends and fraternity brothers Zachary Lauderdale and Gavin Calhoun, who saw a gap in the construction industry and set out to fill it.

Gavin brings years of hands-on experience in stonework, combining craftsmanship and technical knowledge earned in the field. Zach contributes the financial and business expertise gained leading a successful real estate development company. Together, they pair practical skill with strategic vision to deliver masonry built on quality, reliability and trust.

Gavin Calhoun

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Gavin brings over six years of hands-on masonry experience and a deep passion for the craft. Known for his precision, work ethic and attention to detail, he has built a reputation for quality across every project he takes on.

Before founding Capstone, Gavin worked with Creative Stone Design, a leading Chattanooga masonry company featured in Chattanooga Times Magazine with over $5 million in annual sales. There he refined his skills on high-end residential and commercial projects.

Having grown from the field up, Gavin understands every phase of the building process, from design and material selection to the final stone set. He believes great masonry goes beyond stone and mortar: it's about building something lasting, with integrity and pride in every detail.

Zachary Lauderdale

Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer

Zach brings a background in real estate development, finance and business management. He founded The Lauderdale Group, a Birmingham-based development company with more than $295 million in completed projects across the Southeast, specializing in industrial and self-storage assets.

At Capstone, Zach oversees financial strategy, operations and long-term planning. His experience structuring investments, managing budgets and building scalable systems keeps the company running efficiently without compromising on craftsmanship.

Zach is studying Finance and Real Estate at Samford University. His vision is to align Capstone's work with a broader mission of creating lasting value in the communities it serves.

In Scripture, the capstone represents Christ, the essential foundation upon which everything else stands.

That meaning shapes the way we work: with integrity, strength and a desire to create something lasting. Just as the capstone completes and secures a structure, our goal is to deliver projects that stand the test of time and strengthen the communities around them.
